This chainsaw is wonderful. For years, decades actually, I’ve had a 24″ Stihl chainsaw. That served its purpose back in the day when we lived in the mountains and were constantly dealing with dead or down trees. But I no longer need to fell tall trees and buck them. Now my needs are the more common residential requirements of cutting down smaller trees or shrubs. And this chainsaw is perfect for that. It’s size is much lighter and easier to handle than a gas chainsaw. I am also really liking not having a pull rope. These days I find myself cutting things down and then moving things before making the next cut. It is so nice not to have to pull a rope when you are starting and stopping repeatedly. I bought the 18″ model and am happy that I did not get the smaller version. I have cut down a 12″ diameter tree and cut the stump down to grade level. This chainsaw has a sharp blade and it tore through it very quickly. I purchased the Ego brand of oil to use for this and this is designed so that you do not need a pour spout to get oil into it, and the oil compartment has a visual aspect to it so that you can see when you need more oil. It is also auto adjusting. I was a bit skeptical about that but it does seem to work. I did manage to throw my chain once making a cut. Normally that requires getting some wrenches and taking the cover off and loosening screws and then tightening things back up. Not with this thing. With your hand, you unscrew the auto-tightening cover, put the chain back in the track and put the cover back on and tighten it by hand. It took about 2 minutes. Very easy. I read one other review where the person said that with multiple harder cuts the battery did get warm and that can degrade the battery life over time. I don’t know how accurate that is but with that in mind, even though I already have an Ego lawn mower with a 10Ah battery, I did opt to also get a separate 4Ah battery dedicated for this chainsaw. So far that battery has lasted me as long as I have needed on the projects that I am working on. I am really happy that I got this.
